Rotating or Revoking a Key

Rotating or Revoking a Key

Zero-downtime rotation: issue, swap, verify, revoke. In that order.

Rotate a key when a staff member with dashboard access leaves, when a key was published to an unintended location, or on whatever schedule your internal policy sets.

Zero-downtime procedure

  1. Issue the new key in the dashboard. The old key stays live.
  2. Swap the data-key value everywhere the widget appears. Search your whole site — footers and landing pages get missed.
  3. Verify the calculator renders on every page you changed, in a private browsing window with cache cleared.
  4. Revoke the old key only after verification passes.

Revoking immediately

If a key needs to die now, revoke first and accept the outage. Revocation takes effect on the next page load; already-mounted widgets on open browser tabs will finish their session normally.

What rotation does not affect

Leads already captured are unaffected. Rotation changes how the widget authenticates, not what your account holds.
